Captain Credentials & Qualifications
Experience matters when you place your boat in someone else’s hands. Captain Rob Cinq-Mars combines professional maritime credentials, decades of boating experience and a strong technical background in electrical engineering and marine electronics.
These qualifications support the careful planning, troubleshooting and seamanship required for professional powerboat delivery, sailboat delivery and captain services.
USCG Licensed Master Captain
Rob holds a United States Coast Guard Master license, reflecting the sea service, examinations and professional requirements necessary to operate vessels as a licensed captain.
Electrical Engineering
Rob holds a degree in electrical engineering and is a member of Eta Kappa Nu, the electrical and computer engineering honor society.
For a yacht owner, that background provides an additional level of technical understanding when dealing with electrical systems, charging systems, instrumentation, navigation equipment and other onboard electronics.
Marine Electronics & NMEA 2000 Training
Rob has completed additional training as a Marine Electronics Installer and NMEA 2000 Installer.
Modern yachts rely heavily on integrated electronics. Understanding how those systems communicate and how to approach a problem can be especially valuable during a long-distance delivery.

Experience on Sail & Power
Credentials are important, but they are most valuable when backed by real experience. Rob’s boating background includes sailboats ranging from small boats to large schooners as well as powerboats ranging from recreational vessels to large commercial crew and supply boats.
That experience allows Capable Captain to work with a wide range of vessels and routes rather than specializing exclusively in either sail or power.
Why Technical Experience Matters During a Delivery
A yacht delivery can place a vessel hundreds of miles from its normal marina and service providers. Mechanical, electrical and electronic problems do not always occur at convenient times.
The ability to understand a problem, troubleshoot it intelligently and determine the safest course of action can be just as important as navigation and boat handling.
Preparation remains the first line of defense. Before your delivery, review our boat preparation guide and our yacht delivery FAQ.

Preparation Comes First
One principle guides every Capable Captain delivery: prepare carefully before getting underway.
That means reviewing the vessel, checking critical systems, planning the route, monitoring weather and considering fuel, tides, currents, bridge clearances, locks and suitable stopping points before they become problems.
Owners can help with that process by reviewing our guide to preparing your boat for delivery.
Your Boat Is Our Responsibility
A yacht is a significant investment, and handing it over to a delivery captain requires trust. We approach every delivery with the same priorities: safety, preparation, communication and care for the vessel.
Owners receive updates throughout the trip and can follow longer passages through our yacht delivery tracking.
You can also see the boats, routes and destinations we’ve handled on our recent yacht deliveries page.
Professional Yacht Delivery
Capable Captain provides yacht delivery throughout the East Coast, Great Lakes, Gulf Coast, Caribbean, Intracoastal Waterway and inland waterways.
